Where did this data come from? Not a chance that Allendale is an urban city with 500,000 people. Just tell the truth; it’s in the middle of nowhere and the population is 17,500 (Which is highly inflated with college students who return to the Eastside during the summer).
And don’t give me that “Oh, they’re factoring in the GR campus” thing either. Only count the main campus where 60% of the classes take place.

They just want to be trendy. Sooo hipster.

Alternative Spring Break 2012

Today I found out where I’m going and what I’m doing for spring break!

The topic of my group is Refugee Resettlement. We will be staying in Decatur, Georgia and will be working for the Refugee Resettlement & Immigration Services of Atlanta (RRISA). Last year’s group prepared residences for incoming refugees and even got to drive to the airport to pick up families to help them move in.

I’m really excited to meet people from around the world and help them settle into their new homes in the U.S.!

Carved into the tree:In my death I leave behind the connection between this world and the next.
The story I am about to tell is historically true.
In the 1800s, a French explorer (whose name I cannot recall) trekked across what is today known as Allendale. For reasons which still remain unknown, the explorer ended up hanging himself on a piece of land. This piece of land happens to be where Grand Valley built their new campus dining facility; they named it, “The Connection”.
The above quote is the last entry in the man’s journal. It’s eerie to think about how our school knew about the land’s significance, yet proceeded to build on it. It’s even more creepy to think about the name of it.
There is a nice little tidbit about some of Allendale’s history.
